Embracing Health: even when motivation is low
It’s a rainy dreary Monday morning and the last thing you feel like doing is getting up and going to work, then come home to make dinner and get the kids to bed.
I still get those days - where you just can’t find the motivation to look after yourself of anyone else, and let’s be honest, it’s likely because you spend most of your life running around after everyone else and making sure that they have everything they need with your needs coming last.
Meal prepping and cooking can feel completely overwhelming in these moments, how do you find the energy to make a decent meal. The thing is, when we make that decent meal it’s actually an act of self care because it nourishes the body and keeps you full and happy.
On days when the thought of cooking feels like an insurmountable task, try these tips to make self-care a little easier:
Keep it simple: Stick to easy, one-pan meals that require minimal prep work. Things like stir-fries, sheet pan dinners, or slow cooker recipes can be lifesavers on tough days.
Batch cook: Take some time on the weekend to make a few easy, healthy meals that you can reheat throughout the week. Soups, casseroles, and even meal-sized salads are great options.
Embrace convenience: There's no shame in relying on frozen veggies, pre-chopped ingredients, or even an occasional ready-made meal from the grocery store. The goal is nourishment, not gourmet cooking.
Enlist help: Ask your partner, kids, or roommates to pitch in with meal prep or dishes. Many hands make light work, and involving others can make the task feel less daunting.
Remember the WHY: Keeping in mind that cooking a healthy meal is an act of self-care can provide the motivation to push through. Nourishing your body will make you feel better in the long run.
The next time you're having one of those dreary, unmotivated days, try implementing a few of these strategies. Caring for yourself, even in small ways, can go a long way in boosting your mood and energy levels. You've got this!
